Just as Felicity Jones and Armie Hammer show us Ruth and Marty Ginsburg, the film recreates not only the look of urban America from the mid-fifties through mid-seventies, but how it felt to live through them. The strong supporting cast includes Sam Waterston (unlikeable), Kathy Bates (uncooperative) and Justin Theroux (unrecognizable). There is both scene chewing and subtlety from the film’s actors, and hard work and luck on the part of the real people they portray. Critic A. O.
