2sdays: "Boy Erased"

More than 77,000 people in America are currently undergoing gay conversion therapy. Boy Erased tells the incredible true story of one of them: 19-year-old Jared Eamonds (Lucas Hedges). Jared grew up in a small town in Arkansas. His devoutly religious family consisted of his father, Marshall (Russell Crowe), a Baptist minister, and his mother, Nancy (Nicole Kidman). When Jared began to question his sexuality, his father became concerned and talked to the members of his church to see if they had any suggestions as to how Jared could cleanse himself of these sins. They suggested that Jared be sent away to gay conversion therapy where “pray away the gay” is the ultimate goal. Jared’s father tells him that if he doesn’t attend this therapy, he will be permanently exiled and shunned by his family, friends and faith. As Jared struggles with faith and sexuality, he decides to go for the therapy. His experience at the conversion therapy center is utterly heartbreaking and is something that no person should ever have to go through. “Lucas Hedges, Nicole Kidman, and Russell Crowe lead a superb cast in (director) Joel Edgerton’s riveting conversion therapy drama that hits all the right notes,” says Pete Hammond of Deadline Hollywood Daily. “Boy Erased is a powerful character-driven film that tells an essential story. It is a must-see film and is one of the best movies of 2018,” adds Scott Menzel of We Live Entertainment. 1:54. Rated R for sex and spiritual suffering.
