Sussex Bird Club | Three Generations Traveling and Birding in Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands

Online
Online & In-Person

Join The Sussex Bird Club in-person at the library or online to hear a grandfather discuss how he was able to share his love of birds and nature with his family. After retiring in 2000, Sussex Bird Club member Dick Plambeck started traveling more around the world and taking his four granddaughters on special trips. Dick documents their travels photographically and especially enjoys watching his granddaughters marvel at the natural beauty in special places in the US and around the world. He recently took his son and youngest granddaughter to Ecuador and the Galapagos Islands. He will share photos and information about the cities of Quito and Guayaquil as well as the flora and fauna of the cloud forest at Mashpi on the mainland and several of the Galapagos Islands.

Dick Plambeck has BS and MS degrees in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois. He worked in the energy industry on oil, coal, gas, nuclear, and other projects on five continents. He did pro bono work for government and environmental organizations, churches, Boy Scouts and others. He also held leadership positions as mayor and chaired several boards and committees. Dick and his wife, Barbara, moved to Millsboro in 2015 and he has been a member of the Sussex Bird Club since 2016.

The Sussex Bird Club's primary objective is to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of wild birds through guided field trips and monthly meetings about various aspects of birding. Meetings are open to all and beginning birders are always welcome.
