Join The Sussex Bird Club for a presentation by Chris Bennet on Slower, Lower Birding: Exploring the lesser-known birding sites of Kent and Sussex Counties. The lower two counties of Delaware are well known to offer some of the best birding in the eastern United States. Bombay Hook, Prime Hook, Cape Henlopen, and Indian River Inlet are a just a few of the well-known sites that attract intense attention from both local and traveling birders. But there are scores of lesser-known sites scattered across southern Delaware that attract far less attention from birders. Join local birder Chris Bennett on a tour of some of the best of these lesser-known sites and learn about the birds you might expect to see as well as the best times to visit.

Chris Bennett was born and raised in the Mohawk Valley of east central New York State. He began birding while attending the State University of New York at Oswego where he received a BS in Zoology. After graduation, he worked up and down the eastern seaboard from the lower Hudson Valley to southwest Florida as a naturalist and environmental educator. He and his wife Karen moved to Delaware at the end of 1995 where he began his career with the Delaware Division of Parks and Recreation. He managed the Seaside Nature Center at Cape Henlopen State Park from January 1996 to September 2002. Since 2002 he has worked for the Division’s Environmental Stewardship Program where he is currently the program’s manager. Chris lives in Milford with his wife Karen and canine companion Ani.

The Sussex Bird Club's primary objective is to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of wild birds through guided field trips and monthly meetings about various aspects of birding. Meetings are open to all and beginning birders are always welcome.
