Sussex Bird Club | Delmarva Birding Weekends

Online
Online & In-Person

Join The Sussex Bird Club in-person in the library or online to hear Jim Rapp, one of the founders of Delmarva Birding Weekends (DBW), a regional outfitter that has been organizing birding and wildlife watching events since 1995. What started as an annual spring birding celebration in late April has now grown into year-round events and field trips all over the Delmarva Peninsula and beyond. Jim will share a little history about the DBWs, and how birding tourism benefits rural communities. He also will take you on a virtual tour of some of the experiences DBW offers throughout the year.

Jim currently serves as director of the Hazel Outdoor Discovery Center. Prior to holding this post, he was the director of the Salisbury Zoo for 14 years before being tapped in 2007 as the director of Delmarva Low Impact Tourism Experiences, a business-sponsored nature tourism outfit created to entice tourists with biking, paddling and birding trails and events it helped spawn. Rapp is the past president of the Wicomico Environmental Trust, Lower Eastern Shore Heritage Council, Assateague Coastal Trust, and Nanticoke Watershed Alliance. Rapp was named Tourism Person of the Year in both Wicomico and Worcester counties in 2004 and 2006 respectively.

The Sussex Bird Club's primary objective is to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of wild birds through guided field trips and monthly meetings about various aspects of birding. Meetings are open to all and beginning birders are always welcome.
