Sussex Bird Club | Evolution Runs Amok
Online
As a bird club, we tend to respect all forms of nature. This month, join The Sussex Bird Club in-person in the library or online to hear naturalist Michael Fritz speak about something different, what’s found in the seas. All of us are familiar with biodiversity hotspots like the rainforests of South America, Africa and Asia, but many of us forget that the oceans hold many times more species of animals than the land. In this presentation. Fritz will give a tiny peek at some of the incredible biodiversity that exists beneath the surface of the sea. The epicenter of marine biodiversity is in the center of the "Coral Triangle" which includes Indonesia, the Philippines, and Micronesia. This presentation looks not just at the colorful coral reefs, but also the nearby "muck" and sand areas where animals have evolved some amazing symbiotic relationships and devious methods of camouflage.
Michael Fritz is a naturalist from Cape May, NJ where he's led countless birding field trips over the last 40+ years. Marine Biology is his favorite topic and he's a frequent leader on whale watching and pelagic trips on both coasts. You may have met him if you ever participated on the pelagic trips of Lewes. He's an amateur underwater photographer and has been scuba diving for over 35 years. He has dived (and birded) at many of the best diving locations around the world.
The Sussex Bird Club's primary objective is to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of wild birds through guided field trips and monthly meetings about various aspects of birding. Meetings are open to all and beginning birders are always welcome.
