Join The Sussex Bird Club (SBC) in-person in the library or online to hear one of its members, Debbie Blair, talk about her recent trip to the Galápagos Islands with her husband Andy. If you’ve been on one of SBC’s field trips, chances are Debbie was there with her camera. She is a talented photographer with a passion for photographing birds. Her husband Andy is supportive of Debbie’s hobbies and has been willing to venture on trips where Debbie enjoys seeing new birds and wildlife. In September 2024, Debbie and Andy went on a bucket list trip to the Galápagos Islands with Wildside Nature Tours. 

Debbie Blair is a member of the Sussex Bird Club and has been since moving to Delaware in the summer of 2022. She began her journey seriously birding upon retirement from Lockheed Martin in 2018. Her love of backyard birds comes from her parents, especially her mom, who helped her learn the bird names as they came to feeders. Her mom’s paintings late in life of birds, especially the Eastern Bluebird, inspired her to do further research on how to create better habitats for nesting and raising young birds. Soon, Debbie began getting out to see more birds that did not visit her backyard. A new world was discovered and she was hooked. Debbie is also a member of the Coastal Camera Club and a volunteer for TriState Bird Rescue. She hopes to inspire more people to take notice of the birds and nature around them and work to protect and care for it.

The Sussex Bird Club's primary objective is to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of wild birds through guided field trips and monthly meetings about various aspects of birding. Meetings are open to all and beginning birders are always welcome.
