Homeschool Connections: The Underground Railroad

Join us on the 1st and 3rd Tuesday of every month from September to May for fun events just for homeschoolers! These events are designed for kids ages 6-18. All of our events are completely free of charge.

Registration is required for all events and opens approximately one month before the event begins. Please ensure that your email and phone number are correct and only register the participating youth (ages 6-18)! One no-call, no-show will result in removal from the registration list, but you are still welcome to join as a walk-in & see if space is available.

On February 18th, join us for a 45-minute guided walk around Downtown Dover, where we will retrace the footsteps and uncover the fingerprints of African American history that shaped our town. This immersive experience will bring to life the powerful stories of resilience, courage, and determination, including:

  • The Remarkable Petition of Freedom: Discover the inspiring tale of a man who successfully fought for his freedom in Dover.
  • Dover’s Greatest Escape: Learn about a daring escape on the Underground Railroad that stands as a testament to the fight for freedom.
  • Hideaways, Heroes, and Helpers: Explore the hidden corners of our town where ordinary people became extraordinary in the struggle for justice and equality.

Why Attend?

  • Experience History Firsthand: Walk the very paths that tell the story of our shared past.
  • Celebrate Black History Month: Honor the contributions and sacrifices of African Americans in our community.
  • Connect with Your Community: Engage with others in a meaningful reflection on the legacy of Black history in Dover.

This walk will begin and end at the Dover Public Library, and it is suitable for all ages and is a great way to learn, reflect, and pay tribute to the stories that have shaped our town. Please remember to wear good walking shoes & appropriate clothing for walking outdoors.
