The Music School of Delaware Presents North (and South!) of the Border

In-person

Join us by the fireplace as Music School of Delaware faculty members, Margaret Swinchoski and Scott Horey explore the sounds of flute and percussion, with music by North and South American composers, including Nancy Bloomer Deussen, James Cohn, Mark Engebretson, Astor Piazzolla, and Ney Rosauro, along with traditional Mexican music. The program also features the world premiere of a brand-new work for flute and marimba by Delaware’s own J. Andrew Dickenson.

Scotty Horey (B.A., M.M.A., D.M.A.) is a solo percussionist, drummer, teacher, and health and wellness advocate. From 2020 - 2022, he lived in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, Chiapas, Mexico where he held the position of full professor of percussion at the famous Universidad de Ciencias y Artes de Chiapas, the top marimba school of Mexico. His strongest passions in music and teaching include classical music, contemporary-classical music, progressive rock and jazz fusion, mind/body "holistic" awareness, and cultural exchange. His extensive performance and teaching experience has brought him all throughout U.S.A., Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Costa Rica, Mexico, Portugal, Poland, Greece, and Denmark.

Margaret Swinchoski, award winning flutist, is currently principal flute with the New York Gilbert & Sullivan Orchestra and Lancaster Festival Orchestra in Ohio. She is on the faculty of The Ridgewood Conservatory and is newly appointed to the faculty of the Music School of Delaware. As a founding member of the Palisades Virtuosi, she has commissioned and premiered nearly 100 works for flute, clarinet, and piano which just received The American Prize - 2022 Ernst Bacon Award - for Performance of American Music. Recently moved to Delaware, she also formed a flute and harp duo, Duo Dolce, with Joy Slavens, and they have been performing throughout Sussex and Kent counties for the past year.

Co-hosted by The Music School of Delaware, which was founded in 1924. The Music School is the only statewide, accredited, community music school in the nation, serving residents of Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland. A community resource open to the public, the Music School employs nearly 90 expert educators and offers standard-setting instructional programs for people of all ages and abilities.
