Black History Through The Eyes of the Black Press, Presented by Syl Woolford

Black History Through The Eyes of the Black Press, Presented by Syl Woolford

Online

Samuel Eli Cornish and John Brown Russwurm edited the first Black newspaper in New York City in 1827. In the first edition they explained to their readers why the country needed a Black newspaper.

From the first Black newspaper in 1827 to the mid-twenty century, the Black press was very strong and uninhibited in telling the truth from the Black perspective. This lecture takes us back to those days and views history from the Black perspective.
