Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers - Understanding the Middle Stage | Session 1

Living with Alzheimer's for Caregivers - Understanding the Middle Stage | Session 1

In-person

Join us in the library for a presentation by the Alzheimer’s Association during National Alzheimer's Awareness and Family Caregivers Month.
In the middle stage of Alzheimer's disease or related dementia, gaps in memory and thinking become more noticeable and individuals begin to need help with day-to-day activities.  Personality, behavior and sleep patterns may continue to change and caregivers gradually need to assume greater responsibility in managing personal care, financing and decision making.  This 3-part series is designed to provide caregivers with the knowledge, tools and strategies needed to cope with a diagnosis and provide optimal care during the middle stage of the disease in order to maintain quality of life. A participant guide and workbook will be provided.

  • Session 1 covers symptoms of the middle stage, effective communication, relationship changes, and practical tips for providing personal care.
  • Session 2 addresses a variety of behavioral systems including mood changes and wandering, keeping the person safe if and when certain behaviors emerge, planning and asking for help, and informal care options.
  • Session 3 explores finding, engaging and monitoring home care assistance, handling ongoing behavior issues, medication management, future care provisions as the disease progresses and coping as a caregiver.

Registration is requested. Walk ins are welcome as space allows.
