Make a splash and dive into summer reading with the Sussex County Libraries!

Sussex County Libraries are excited to announce the 2nd Children’s Book Festival! This year’s excitement could not be contained in one location. Activities will be held in Bridgeville at Delaware’s own Bridgeville Public Library, Passwaters Park, and Frozen Farmer! Activities, performances and adventures will be awaiting attendees at all locations from 10 AM to 2 PM.

At 10 AM, Eric Litwin will kick-off the festival with a special musical performance at the Bridgeville Library. As the original author of the Pete the Cat series, Eric brings a fun mix of stories and songs to his audience. Following this performance Eric will be available to meet and greet with his many fans. Eric will perform an encore performance at 1:30 PM at the Frozen Farmer location, so there is no fear of missing out!

At Bridgeville Public Library, the highlight of the festival will be twelve authors of board, picture, and chapter books! Authors will be there to personally meet, sign books for, and spark the imagination of their youngest fans. Browseabout Books will be on location for families to purchase copies of their favorite books. Attendees will also be able to visit displays for Dolly Parton's Imagination Library, Summer Reading, and be entertained by a balloon artist.

The adventure continues in Passwaters Park, located directly behind the library. Visitors will go on adventures through the furthest reaches of outer space, breeze through the atmosphere, and splash into the ocean with learning stations and hands-on activities. Along with everyone’s favorite librarians from across Sussex County, adventures will be led by ILC Dover, Delaware AeroSpace Education Foundation, and the MERR Institute. PAWS Reading companions, which are trained therapy animals, will also be in attendance to share their love of reading with your child. The space, weather, and ocean adventures will continue with the Sussex Story Strolls and a special gift at the end of each story! We also have talented local self-published author guests Chris Lee and James Malloy who will be sharing their stories and passion.

The excitement continues at Evans Farms and The Frozen Farmer on Seashore Highway, where we celebrate our Sussex County farmers! Activities at this location will highlight farming and will include the Delaware Farm Bureau and the Mobile Farm Lab, library learning station, the Watkins Wonders Petting Zoo, and the Buddy Bison Story Stroll with a special gift at the end! Read-Aloud Delaware and the Sussex County Bookmobile, as well as our special guest and local author Máximo Castellanos will also be highlights of the day. Máximo is an inspiration to children everywhere to follow your dreams!
