An Evening with Delaware Shakespeare

An Evening with Delaware Shakespeare

In-person

The Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society and Shakespeare Festival welcomes Delaware Shakespeare.

Delaware Shakespeare presents an evening of Shakespeare and Shakespeare-inspired music with singer-songwriter Emily Schuman and members of Delaware Shakespeare’s professional company. Emily will share her music and explanations behind the creations and company members will read and perform text from the original pieces on which this music is based.

Emily Schuman is a Philadelphia-based theatre artist whose work ranges across disciplines as a performer, prop/production designer and musician/singer-songwriter. As a performer, she has worked regionally with such companies as Delaware Shakespeare, Walnut Street Theatre, and Revolution Shakespeare. As a singer/songwriter and musician, she collaborates with companies such as Delaware Shakespeare and Almanac Dance Circus Theatre to create original music scores for live performances.

Originally from New York City, Emily majored in Drama at the Fiorello H. LaGuardia High School for the Performing Arts. She holds a BA in Theater from Denison University and studied Shakespeare in performance at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, UK. She is a graduate of the Arden Theatre Professional Apprentice Program, is currently an associate artist with Applied Mechanics, and recently served a term as a member of the Artistic Squad at Delaware Shakespeare.

The Shakespeare Festival, a program of the Lewes Public Library since 2015, seeks to provide the community with experiences that foster the understanding of Shakespeare and the world in which he lived and wrote. In addition the Festival fosters the development of new works celebrating the spoken word and hosting performances of classical texts.

NOTE: seating is limited so registration is required.

The Shakespeare Festival is partially funded by a grant from the Delaware Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com.
