Stage Combat Workshop for Teens

Stage Combat Workshop for Teens

The Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society and Shakespeare Festival presents a Stage Combat Workshop for Teens (ages 14 - 18).

Have you ever wondered how actors perform big fights every night on stage without hurting themselves or each other? Join Brown Box Theatre Project in a practical exploration of violence on stage. Learn the basic tenets of creating exciting, realistic, and (most importantly) safe fight scenes. This overview of hand-to-hand combat will cover pushing, slapping, punching, and maybe even a hair pull or two.

Committed to curating a safe space for exploration and creativity, this 90-minute workshop will be led by staff member and frequent collaborator, Margaret Clark. Margaret is an actor and fight choreographer based in Boston. Her disciplines include hand to hand, rapier and dagger, knife, single sword, and broadsword and recent choreography credits include "Measure for Measure" (Brown Box), "Shakespeare in Love" (Cape Rep), "Our Dear Dead Drug Lord" (Off the Grid), "Romeo and Juliet" (Shakespeare Now!), and "Julius Caesar" (Commonwealth Shakespeare). In addition to her work in stage combat, Margaret is a first degree blackbelt in karate, and a five time national champion.

THIS WORKSHOP IS FOR TEENS ONLY (ages 14 - 18). Registration is required.

The Shakespeare Festival is partially funded by a grant from the Delaware Humanities, a state program of the National Endowment for the Humanities, and by a grant from the Delaware Division of the Arts, a state agency, in partnership with the National Endowment for the Arts. The Division promotes Delaware arts events on DelawareScene.com.
