Join us for an online presentation by Michael Moore, President of the Delaware Ornithological Society. Since becoming the eBird reviewer for Sussex County, Mike has learned how eBird works from the reviewer’s side. Mike will share examples of how eBird is used for scientific research and explain how the review process ensures the quality of data shared with scientists. Learn answers to questions like: What does an eBird reviewer do? Why was my record flagged? Why are some common birds flagged as rare? What should I do when a record is flagged? Why did I get an email from the reviewer? What does it mean if the reviewer Unconfirms my sighting? You do not have to be an active eBirder to appreciate the data and learn more about it.

Michael Moore was a Biology professor at Arizona State University for 27 years and then at University of Delaware for 11 years before retiring a couple of years ago. He has published nearly 100 papers in scientific journals on behavior and hormones of birds and reptiles. He worked as an intern at Manomet Bird Observatory in Massachusetts in college and then completed a PhD in Zoology at the University of Washington on White-crowned Sparrows. He started birding in Massachusetts at 11 years old and has pursued it passionately since with a special interest in identification challenges and chasing rarities.
