Shakespeare Summer Acting Intensive for High School Students

The Lewes Public Library Spoken Word Society and Shakespeare Festival presents The 2021 Shakespeare Summer Acting Intensive for High School Students

This program includes:

  • Thirty hours of intensive training in text work, scene study, and performance preparation by professional actors and master teachers with expertise in Shakespearean performance practice.
  • Workshops in applied skills including stage combat, page-to-stage adaptation, and more.
  • Participation in a public performance master class.

Requirements are:

  • This program is intended for the highly-motivated student in grades 10 through 12 (or ages 15 – 18) with a strong interest in Shakespeare.
  • Students will be expected to work independently outside of class sessions to prepare for these sessions and for a public performance.
  • Students are expected to attend all sessions.
  • This program is free but registration is required.

Week 1:
Saturday, August 7 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Monday, August 9 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Tuesday, August 10 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM
Thursday, August 12 from 5:00 PM – 8:00 PM

Week 2:
Saturday, August 14 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Monday, August 16 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Tuesday, August 17 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Thursday, August 19 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Week 3:
Saturday, August 21 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Monday, August 23 from 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM
Tuesday, August 24 from    5:00 – 9:00 PM
Thursday, August 26 from 5:00 – 9:00 PM (Performance)

Workshop instructors are:
Dr. James Keegan, Actor’s Equity Association member and the veteran of more than 60 professional productions on the Blackfriars Playhouse Stage at the American Shakespeare Center, is a professor of English at the University of Delaware.
Sadie Andros, theatre teacher at Cape Henlopen High School, trained at the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts and has performed on professional stages regionally, in New York City, and in London.
