Conversation with The Rev. Eric O. Springsted | Simone Weil for the Twenty-First Century

Online

Join us for an online conversation with The Rev. Eric O. Springsted as he discusses his latest book, an in-depth study examining the social, religious, and philosophical thought of Simone Weil. Ron Collins, the Lewes Library’s Distinguished Lecture, will interview Dr. Springsted with whom he is co-editing a forthcoming book on Simone Weil.

Eric O. Springsted is one of the foremost Simone Weil scholars in the world. He is the author and editor of a dozen books, including his latest one titled Simone Weil for the Twenty-First Century. Beyond being a guide to reading Weil, this book argues for the importance of Weil’s thought in the contemporary times in everything from politics to matters of faith. In this book Dr. Springsted also stresses the need for human beings to understand themselves as communal beings and not as isolated individuals obsessed with their own claims of rights.

Dr. Springsted is the co-founder of the American Weil Society and served as its president for thirty-three years. After a career as a teacher, scholar, and pastor, he retired and lives in Santa Fe, NM.
