A renowned culinary historian offers a fresh perspective on our most divisive cultural issue, race. His illuminating memoir of southern cuisine and food culture is titled The Cooking Gene. Michael Twitty portrays a slave from the 18th century while cooking and teaching at the Peyton Randolph House in Colonial Williamsburg.
