2sdays: "Wild Rose"

Rose-Lynn thinks she has what it takes to become a country music star. She also has a prison record and two children. And she lives in Ireland. As Rotten Tomatoes says, “(T)here’s no shortage of star-is-born stories, but Wild Rose proves they can still be thoroughly entertaining, and marks its own transcendent moment for lead Jessie Buckley.” Jeffrey Overstreet of Looking Closer says Wild Rose “demonstrates wisdom far deeper than almost any road-to-stardom story I can think of. It's more about how a soul is saved than how a star is born.” Both the film and its lead actor are praised by Wade Majors of Film Week (NPR Los Angeles), who says, “Jessie Buckley is just one of those towering presences who just takes over a movie and owns it. The movie winds up molding itself to her and that's a credit to the director.” 1:41. Rated R for rocky language throughout, sexuality and brief drug material.
