How to Read the News
How do you feel about fake news, and how does it make you feel about real news? This presentation uses the rise of fake news, so often widely disdained by commentators across America, as an opportunity to reflect on some of our most treasured, and least closely examined, assumptions about authority, trust, the facts, the truth, and real news.
Presenter Thomas Leitch is Professor of English at the University of Delaware, where he teaches undergraduate courses in film and graduate courses in literary and cultural theory. His most recent books are "Wikipedia U: Knowledge, Authority, and Liberal Education in the Digital Age" and "The Oxford Handbook of Adaptation Studies." He has led over two hundred reading-discussion sessions at Delaware libraries.
