Lecture Series: Interview with Simone Weil Scholar, Lawrence Schmidt

Lecture Series: Interview with Simone Weil Scholar, Lawrence Schmidt

Starting January 7, the Library, the Topical Seminars group, and the Rehoboth Beach Writers Guild are hosting a series of 11 lectures by University of Washington law professor and Lewes resident Ronald Collins.
The lectures explore the life and work of Simone Weil (1909-1943), who Albert Camus tagged as “the only great spirit of our times.” The lectures, replete with informed and engaged discussion, are designed to explain and examine the thinking – political, pedagogical, philosophical, psychological, and spiritual – of Simone Weil, along with some occasional and related discussion of the life and philosophy of Camus.

On March 11 presenter Ron Collins will interview Lawrence Schmidt, emeritus professor of Religious Ethics in the Center for the Study of Religion at University of Toronto. He is the author of The End of Ethics in A Technological Society and also a co-translator of Simone Weil: Late Philosophical Writings. He has authored some three dozen articles on Simone Weil (1909-1943), the French philosopher and Resistance activist.
Registration is requested. Sign up online, call the Library at 302-645-2733, or stop by the Circulation Desk.
