Revolutionary Women: Peggy and Her Schuyler Sisters

Revolutionary Women: Peggy and Her Schuyler Sisters

Online
Online & In-Person

This Women's History Month join in-person in the library or online for a conversation with New York Times bestselling author, L. M. Elliott.

In tandem with Ken Burns' The American Revolution, PBS created a Resource Engagement Center and recommended reading "to complement and spark meaningful exploration of the series, the historical events surrounding the founding of the United States and the enduring ideas of liberty, freedom, democracy, and independence." Included on that list was L. M. Elliott's award-winning biographical novel Hamilton and Peggy! A Revolutionary Friendship. Elliott will discuss the life and times of proto-feminist Peggy Schuyler, her sisters, and other women patriots in her circle, as well as expand on topics and "bottom-up" perspectives Burns touched on: the heartache and daily danger of loyalists vs. patriots; our Native allies; the British invasion from Canada; the espionage ring her father ran from their home; yeoman spies; GW's aides-de-camp and some dazzling French officers.

L. M. Elliott was an award-winning magazine journalist for 20 years before becoming a New York Times bestselling author of historical/biographical novels. Three-time finalist for the National Magazine Award and winner of multiple Dateline Awards, Elliott’s extensive reporting experiences inform and enrich her research and her novels' plots, themes, and characters.  Her 14 works cover a variety of eras-- the Cold War, WWII, the Great Depression, American Revolution, and the Italian Renaissance–- and have been honored with the Scott O'Dell, VLA Cardinal Cup and Grateful American prizes for historical fiction; been named NCSS/CBC Notables, Bank St. College of Education Bests, Kirkus Bests, NYPL Books for the Teen Age, and finalists for state awards in VA, MD, PA, UT, ME, VT, KS, IA, and SC.  She holds a BA from Wake Forest University and a MA in journalism from UNC-Chapel Hill.

We invite you to support the author by purchasing a copy of their book from Browseabout Books. Call-in orders are accepted at (302) 226-2665 or you can stop by the store to purchase a copy.
