Martin Luther King, Jr presentation by Rev. John Moore - Black History Month

Martin Luther King, Jr presentation by Rev. John Moore - Black History Month

Presented by the Rev. Dr. John G. Moore Sr., this program will trace Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.’s journey from his early years in Georgia, through his leadership of the civil rights movement and receipt of the Nobel Peace Prize, to his tragic assassination in Memphis, Tennessee. Dr. Moore will also bring three of King’s most iconic speeches to life with dramatic re-enactments: “We Shall Overcome,” “I Have a Dream,” and King’s final address, “I’ve Been to the Mountaintop,” delivered the evening before his death.

A Philadelphia native, Dr. Moore retired from the U.S. Air Force in 2005 after 20 years of distinguished service. He now serves as the director of philanthropy and engagement for the United Way of Delaware.

One of the defining moments of Dr. Moore’s career came on August 26, 2011, when he was chosen to recite “I Have a Dream” during a private dedication ceremony for the opening of the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial in Washington, D.C., attended by 7,500 guests.
