They are a bird we all see in our backyards on a regular basis. But how much do we really “know” about the American Robin? The American Robin is probably the most numerous avian species in North America, thanks largely to its prolific reproduction. At this program presented by Len Eiserer, hear how robins build nests, hatch eggs, nourish nestlings, and turn fledglings into the next generation. Free copies of The American Robin: A Backyard Institution, signed by the author, will be available to attendees.

Len Eiserer received his Bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine and doctorate in Psychology from Bryn Mawr College. He taught for 45 years and, at the age of 78, still teaches part-time. Len has conducted extensive research on both imprinting in ducklings and the communal roosting habits of the American Robin. His 1976 book on robins was the first comprehensive description of this species’ life cycle. Len maintains a website on special trees in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania. He currently serves on the boards of both the Tanger Arboretum and the Kaneko Arboretum. Len speaks frequently on robins, trees and psychology to schools, retirement communities, and bird and garden clubs.

The Sussex Bird Club's primary objective is to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of wild birds through guided field trips and monthly meetings about various aspects of birding. Meetings are open to all and beginning birders are always welcome.
