Sussex Bird Club | Tick Talk: A Discussion of Ticks and Tick Ecology in Delaware

Online
Online & In-Person

Join The Sussex Bird Club in-person in the library or online to hear Delaware’s tick biologist, Ashley Kennedy. She will educate us all about ticks - their biology, behavior, interactions with birds and other species, and associated health risks. You’ll learn how to identify the most common ticks in Delaware, why they’re a bigger problem than ever before (even in the winter!), and practical tips for keeping your family, pets, and yard tick-safe.

Dr. Ashley Kennedy is a Board-Certified Entomologist with a specialty in medical and veterinary entomology. She serves as the Delaware State Tick Biologist in the Division of Fish and Wildlife, directing the state tick program. Previously, she worked at the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, the Defense Centers for Public Health, the Smithsonian Conservation Biology Institute, and the Smithsonian Environmental Research Center. Ashley studied animal behavior at Johns Hopkins University and bird-insect food webs at the University of Delaware. She is interested in disease ecology and the intersection of conservation and public health.

The Sussex Bird Club's primary objective is to promote the knowledge and enjoyment of wild birds through guided field trips and monthly meetings about various aspects of birding. Meetings are open to all and beginning birders are always welcome.
