THE SMALLEST WAR HEROES: THE U.S. ARMY PIGEON SERVICE
The US Army Pigeon Service began with a few donated pigeons on the battlefields of France in World War I. This program discusses the impact that "hero pigeons" played in World War I and World War II. Highlights include WWI hero, Cher Ami, who saved approximately 200 lives of the 77th Infantry, dubbed "the Lost Battalion," in October 1918. This service was part of the US Army until 1957.
