Removing the Stigma of Substance Use Disorder/Addiction

This presentation by the Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health helps to understand how stigma plays a big part when it comes to an individual w/ a substance use disorder and addiction, shows how difficult it could be throughout the individual's wellness + recovery journey. , and gives informative examples of the challenges that individuals experience living with a chronic brain disease.

During the training we discuss the risk factors and how it interferes with the individual's daily life, discuss the forms of stigma. Such as myths, stereotypes, discrimination, shame, and how we can remove labels, or negative mindsets towards an individual with substance abuse or mental health challenges, and speak about ways to stop the stigma by utilizing 4 simple steps. Which are, Engaging, Changing Negative Perspectives, Speaking out, and Education.
