Flood Fair

Flood Fair

Join us at the South Coastal Library for a free and informative Flood Fair on Friday, September 6, 2024 from 1- 4 pm in our large Library Meeting Room. As you may know, severe weather and storms causing localized flooding are becoming more common in our area. Environmental trends suggest that problems may get worse in the coming years. This program provides a wide variety of information and resources to help you, your family, friends and neighbors stay safer when flooding or other emergencies occur.

Our featured speaker will be Tim Cooper, Deputy Director of Public Safety-Emergency Management for Sussex County. Mr. Cooper will discuss planning for emergencies, how to be best prepared if evacuations are called for, and ways to stay informed during emergencies and disasters, among other relevant topics.

Following Mr. Cooper’s presentation, patrons are encouraged to visit the information and resource tables where you can ask questions, raise concerns, and get additional information from organizations such as The Nature Conservancy, the University of Delaware’s Center for Environmental Monitoring and Analysis, UD’s Center for Disabilities Studies, the Coastal Resilience Design Studio, and the E. L. Quarantelli Resource Collection at UD’s Disaster Research Center, among others. Representatives will also provide interactive, hands-on demonstrations of various planning tools such as EnRoads and Know Your Zone.

Attendees will also receive a free book providing further information and tips on preparedness while supplies last. Books are provided through a grant from the Delaware Library association.
