Empowered Caregiver Series
Join the Alzheimer’s Association, Delaware Valley Chapter, for a 5-part educational series on caregiving, with an emphasis on dementia-related caregiving. This series teaches caregivers how to navigate the responsibilities of caring for someone living with dementia. You may attend individual classes, or attend all 5-sessions. Sessions will be held on the 4th Tuesday of each month, starting in October of 2024 through February of 2025 (December 2024 is the exception due to the holidays).
Registration is appreciated, and each class has a separate registration. You may register online below, by phone or in person. (302-858-5518).
Schedule:
October 22 | Building Foundations of Caregiving | This class explores the role of the caregiver and changes they may experience, building a support team and managing caregiver stress.
November 26 | Supporting Independence | This class will focus on helping the person living with dementia take part in daily activities, providing the right amount of support, and balancing safety and independence while managing expectations.
December 10 | Communicating Effectively | This class teaches how dementia affects communication, including tips for communicating well with family, friends, and health care professionals.
January 28 | Responding to Dementia-Related Behaviors | We will learn about common behavior changes, and how they are a form of communication, non-medical approaches to behavior, and recognizing when additional help is needed.
February 25 | Exploring Care and Support Services | Examines how best to prepare for future care decisions and changes, including respite care, residential care, and end-of life care.
