Syl Woolford Presents, "William Trotter's War"
William Trotter was a Harvard educated African-American who led many protests against the conditions under which African-Americans lived during the early 1900’s. His rage focused on the philosophies which Booker T. Washington espoused and the polices of segregation which President Woodrow Wilson implemented. He was one of the founders of both the Niagara Movement and the NAACP and as editor of the Guardian newspaper in Boston, he used his paper as a voice against injustice.
After World War I, he attended the Peace Conference in Paris and requested the peace agreement include a statement that the United States government should not discriminate against its African-Americans citizens solely based on race.
The lecture reviews the many injustices which William Trotter protested against in his lifetime and will create for all those who attend the lecture, a new hero who they should celebrate.
