The History of Jazz Post 1959 | Part 2

The History of Jazz Post 1959 | Part 2

We are proud to welcome back Dr. Miles Brown, Assistant Professor of Music (String Bass and Jazz) at the University of Delaware for another 2-part lecture series on the history and evolution of Jazz. Building off of his first series, the Origins of Jazz, that was presented in February 2024, Dr. Brown returns with a two-part lecture and discussion on how Jazz has evolved following the pivotal year of 1959.

In part one, we will learn about jazz from 1959 to circa. 1980, a period described as, "“Kind of Blue and the Death of Jazz”.  In the second segment, we will learn about the more recent years of jazz (1980-present), including the modern-day resurgence in jazz and current musical trends within the genre.
