The Evolving Tradition of Old-Time Music
Join us at South Coastal Library for a free and fun old time music/ folk concert! We will learn about the origin and evolution of old-time music with father-son duo, Ken and & Brad Kolodner. The term “Old Time” has been used to describe “string band” music since the 1920s but the style has a much longer history. The style originated by fusing the traditional music of the British Isles and Africa, and later incorporating elements of blues, ragtime, and Bluegrass. Performing on clawhammer banjo, gourd banjo, hammered mbira, twin fiddles, hammered dulcimer, guitar, and vocals, the dynamic Baltimore-based father-son team Ken & Brad Kolodner are leaders in maintaining the tradition true to its roots, but also contributing to its evolution.
