Much has been written about the adventures of Harriet Tubman, Thomas Garrett and the Underground Railroad. There were, however, many slaves that escaped slavery and then were forced to fight to maintain their freedom.

This lecture will discuss three incidents in which former slaves were captured put on trial and forced fight for their freedom. These incidents were, the Mutiny of the Amistad, the Burns Slave Trial and the Oberlin Rescuers.

Presented by Syl Woolford, recognized by the Delaware National Education Association and the NAACP for his contribution to the preservation of African American history. Mr. Woolford is a member of the Delaware Heritage Commission, the Historical and Cultural Affairs Collections Committee, the Historic Preservation Fund, and the Wilmington University History Committee.
