From Here to There: Ferries & Bridges Cross the Delaware

Join us at South Coastal Library for a 1-hour free lecture on the history of ferries & bridges in Delaware and the surrounding delmarva regions. Presented by historian, Mike Dixon. We will learn about how In early times, the crossing of the First State’s waterways, particularly the mighty Delaware River, presented a challenge.  Getting from here to there was often dependent upon river conditions, and the pre-bridge solution was the ferry. This one-hour program looks at the story of getting from here to there in the era of ferries and bridges, with a particular emphasis on the Delaware River.  Once the Delaware Memorial Bridge opened in 1951, ferries were put out of business.
