DELAWARE'S SCHOOL DESEGREGATION: CLOSED DOORS TO OPEN OPPORTUNITIES

DELAWARE'S SCHOOL DESEGREGATION: CLOSED DOORS TO OPEN OPPORTUNITIES

Historically, Delaware Public Education was a segregated system, until the US Supreme Court decision in 1954, Brown vs Kansas Board of Education. The Delaware Black community was one of the five plaintiffs in that decision. Since then, the public schools serve one community all over the state. US History classes provide an understanding of the past injustices to the Black Community. Moving forward, these History courses should also include the leadership and success of Blacks in the arts, the military, in education institutions, economic sector, etc. Focusing on these successes will motivate all young students to the opportunities of an integrated society.
