Dr. Major Martin Delany Presented by Syl Woolford

Online

Dr. Major Martin Delany was a significant African American leader in the eighteen hundreds. He was co-editor of the North Star with Frederick Douglass, he graduated from Harvard medical school, he started a movement for free African Americans to return to Africa and he was commissioned a Major in the United States Colored Troops during the Civil War.

African American history cannot be understood unless the life of Dr. Martin Delany is told.

On June 10, 2023, Syl Woolford will tell the story of Dr. Delany and the history that he created during his life time.

Presented by Syl Woolford, recognized by the Delaware National Education Association and the NAACP for his contribution to the preservation of African American history, Mr. Woolford is a member of the Delaware Heritage Commission, the Historical and Cultural Affairs Collections Committee, the Historic Preservation Fund, and the Wilmington University History Committee.
