Mary Ann Shadd Cary (1823-1893) was one of the most accomplished and celebrated women in Black history. Born in Wilmington in 1823, this teacher, journalist, editor, feminist, lawyer, wife, and mother, practiced a life committed to racial and gender equality. Learn more about this remarkable woman at this Delaware Humanities program.
