The Green Earth Book Award (GEBA) Celebration is held every year to honor The Nature Generation’s Green Earth Book Award winners. Please join The Nature Generation (NatGen) and the library, our partners Salisbury University and Browseabout Books, and all of this year’s Green Earth Book Award-winning authors for this annual celebration. The program includes a short video on NatGen and GEBA, a keynote speaker, presentation of awards to the winners, and remarks from each winning author and illustrator. Please join us online for a great night of education and celebration, recognizing our 20th year of Green Earth Book Award winners. The event is free, but registration is required.

This year's keynote speaker is Pod Bragg, who will speak on the The Great Elephant Migration project, discussing the ambitious project, its impacts, and the amazing migration of these 100 elephants across the country. The Great Elephant Migration is a herd of 100 hand-crafted, Indian elephant sculptures visiting several U.S. cities. These life-size creatures are painstakingly constructed from lantana camara, the second most widespread invasive species in the world. The indigenous tribes that create the sculptures coexist with the real wild elephants the herd is based on. These breathtakingly pieces highlight the nexus of environmental conservation, activism, and public art. Coalescing environmental conservation, wildlife and human coexistence, and indigenous art, The Great Elephant Migration is an installation that raises awareness and inspires curiosity. The Great Elephant Migration currently is grazing in New York's Meatpacking District. They will pack up and head to Miami in late October.

The Nature Generation (NatGen) is an environmental nonprofit that inspires and empowers youth to make a difference in their communities as stewards of the environment. NatGen reaches the  nation’s youth through innovative programs in literature, science, and the arts. Their mission to Read Green, Think Green, and Act Green drives all NatGen initiatives. This year, they are celebrating their 20th anniversary of action and of honoring the best in environmental literature for children and young adults through their nationally recognized Green Earth Book Award. NatGen also offers small grants to organizations and individuals that use Green Earth Book Award books in a project at a school, museum, or community group. NatGen is passionate about protecting the planet and strive to provide scientific-based environmental information to young people through these award-winning books.
