Discovering the Dash | An Introduction to Genealogy for Millennials

In-person

Join us Wednesdays May 8 - May 29 for a 4-week introductory genealogy course just for millennials (born 1980 - 1996)! This program is for millennials who are interested in exploring their family history and who like to solve mysteries or a puzzle. Maureen Miller, secretary of the Sussex County Genealogical Society, is leading the discussion and looks forward to answering questions that arise each week as participants begin (or continue) the exploration of their family history.

Week 1: May 8 - Where to start, how to find records, free resources, how to save my findings

Week 2: May 15 - Exploring key sources in depth, such as censuses, newspapers, and obituaries. Recording source material, discerning primary and secondary sources

Week 3: May 22 - Stories- Interview questions of living relatives, ways of figuring out if family stories are true, ways to record stories

Week 4: May 29 - Ways around "Brick Walls", avoiding "rabbit holes", any final questions.

This introductory program is exclusively reserved for millennials (born 1980 - 1996). If you are not a millennial but are interested in genealogy, please email lewes.library@gmail.com to find a class for your demographic.
