Earth Week | Film Screening and Discussion on Salted Earth

Join us for a screening of the award-winning short film, Salted Earth, exploring the effects of climate change, sea level rise, and salinization on the Delmarva Peninsula. After the film, a panel of experts will engage with the audience, answer questions, and offer insights into the local work underway to protect and improve our coastal lands. The panel includes:

  • Holly Michael, PhD., Director, Delaware Environmental Institute and Professor, Departments of Earth Sciences & Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Delaware
  • Stephanie Stotts, PhD., Associate Professor, Forest Ecology, University of Maryland Eastern Shore
  • Dannielle Pratt, PhD. Candidate, Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, University of Delaware

The moderator is John Sykes, Founding President of Delaware Interfaith Power & Light.

This event is a collaboration between the Lewes Public Library, the Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) at the University of Delaware, Delaware Interfaith Power & Light, and Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware.

The Delaware Environmental Institute (DENIN) is an interdisciplinary research network dedicated to safeguarding the environment. DENIN’s mission is to protect our planet with interdisciplinary environmental knowledge and innovation, through inclusive research collaboration, stakeholder partnerships, and educational initiatives. DENIN research assists decision makers by providing knowledge that informs sound and equitable public policies. By involving students in research through fellowship and internship programs, we are preparing the next generation of environmental leaders. Our outreach to K-12 educators, students, and the public contributes to developing environmentally literate citizens. 
Delaware Interfaith Power & Light was founded in 2011 to address the causes and consequences of Climate Change. Their vision is to engage and mobilize Delaware’s faith communities on environmental stewardship, justice, and climate action.
Unitarian Universalists of Southern Delaware (UUSD) is a welcoming and progressive spiritual community with a faith rooted in love and justice. Its mission is to nurture spiritual growth, embrace diversity, work for justice, and strive for a loving world.
